MY TRUE PASSION IS TEACHING PILATES

It is a true passion to share this with others. I have never thought of myself as super knowledgeable on many subjects but for as many years as I have practiced and studied and learned, I truly surprise myself at things I just understand about the body now. I have been blessed to work with professional athletes, pregnant moms, aging individuals looking to gain strength, people recovering from major surgeries, people with MS, missing limbs, sever osteoporosis, breast cancer survivors, stroke victims, and much more. All the years I was so hard on my own body paid its toll on me so Pilates gives me options as I age. I tell others it can be as gentle of a workout as you need it to be or as aggressive. It is everything from gentle movements to a complete cardio challenge. I love it when people come try it out not expecting to sweat and they are completely surprised by the gentle yet effective workout they just received.

Pilates with lengthen and strengthen your body. You feel literally taller after a workout. It’s main focus is on the core but your extremities (with equipment and load), core and controlled movement will gain benefits from Pilates as well. The core musculature is loosely defined as the spine, abdomen, pelvis, hips, and muscles that support these structures. Some of the main core muscles are the erector spinae, the internal and external obliques, the transverse abdominis, and the rectus abdominis.

Pilates is highly misjudged. You’d be surprised how many people I tell I teach Pilates and they say, “isn’t that like stretching”. It is incredible how this is the description I hear the most often. I usually just tell them you need to take a session to truly understand the benefits you will get from a Pilates workout. I’m certainly not judging people as I myself had the main misconception when it first came out.

While living in Hawaii a friend of mine talked me in to trying it for the first time. I was skeptical as I taught everything and had been in the fitness industry since 1980. I assumed Pilates would come and go, but out of all the things I had a learned in my lifetime Pilates was a surprise to say the least. I decided to then seek out learning more about this wonderful form of exercise and started researching the top trainings and at the time there weren’t as many choices as there are now but I choose to go with Physical Mind as it seemed to dive in to a bit more of the Physical Therapy side of Pilates which seemed to be the most interesting to me. I’m not saying one is better than another but this was just the route I chose to go at the time.
